Chris Brown – As Your Friend (Produced by Afrojack)

The term “sellout” is thrown around everywhere in the music industry, and this is especially true in the EDM world. Devoted EDM fans accuse big name stars, like David Guetta, Avicii, and Afrojack, of “selling out”. But what constitutes “selling out”? If an artist maintains their signature style but has a pop singer or rapper featured on the vocals, does that mean they have ”sold out”? Wouldn’t that be the same as having EDM vocalists, like Nadia Ali or Amba Shepard, sing for their track? Fans generally describe “selling out” as an artist changing their style to appeal to the mainstream industry. Is that really “selling out”? It depends on how you look at it. Yes, they are changing to get more money, but at the same time, they are tweaking their style to appeal to a greater number of people. At the core of most producers and DJs is the desire to create something that makes the most amount of good for the most amount of people. Appealing to more people by changing your music does increase the amount of money you make but it also allows more people to enjoy what you do.
Afrojack is a powerhouse producer in the EDM world. The Dutchman has also been a major point of controversy He has a unique style that blends Progressive House with Dirty Dutch. He currently sits at #9 on DJ Mag’s TOP100 poll. Much of his success can be attributed to his collaborations with David Guetta and the pop music world. His massive hit single “Take Over Control” which featured Eva Simmons stormed the US Billboard 100. The song catapulted Afrojack to the forefront of the EDM world. Afrojack is at it again with the new production “As Your Friend” that he created for Chris Brown. Right off the bat you can definitely tell this is an Afrojack song. He uses his signature dirty dutch leads to make a Pop anthem. However, the release of this track has created some flak for the Dutch house master once again. People are calling him a “sellout” for working with Chris Brown and the pop industry. He keeps his signature style; this song through and through sounds like an Afrojack hit. You decide. Is he a “sellout”? Or is he just bridging the gap between the already blurred lines of EDM and the Pop industry? The song will appear on Afrojack’s 2013 album.

Afrojack – Rock The House (Original Mix)

After a ton of hype and anticipation Afrojack finally released his new single “Rock The House” on his own Wall Records. This track features an epic progressive/electro build you’d expect from the dutchman. Using powerful synths to heighten the mood before the drop, Afrojack really emphasizes his build up and than follows into a vocal sample. The drop consists of Afrojack signature sound and is quite entertaining, but honestly a little too similar to previous Afrojack tracks for me. Take a listen and enjoy!
Keane – Sovereign Light Cafe (Afrojack Remix)
Known for his soothing vocals on Alesso’s remix of “Silenced By The Night“, Afrojack takes Keane’s “Sovereign Light Cafe” and turns it into a progressive banger. Switching away from his unique high pitched dutch synth, Afrojack shows us his more progressive side that we’ve never seen before. This is a side of Afrojack I would love to see more of. Using a catchy melody and uplifting synths to raise the mood, Afrojack kills this track. Enjoy!
Leona Lewis – Collide (Afrojack Remix)

Here is a a new remix from Afrojack with the original track creating a lot of controversy. Avicii has made claims that Leona Lewis’s song “Collide” uses samples from his track “Fade Into Darkness” without his permission. Whereas Lewis claims that Avicii was well aware and agreeing of the use of the sample.Either way Afrojack has taken it upon himself to make a remix of the track. Although this track has much more of a progressive vibe, Afrojack still puts his dirty dutch style into the mix. Enjoy
Will.I.Am feat. Eva Simons – This Is Love (Afrojack Remix)

After his previous success with highly talented singer Eva Simons, Afrojack is back again with a remix of her new track with Will. I.AM titled “This Is Love”. Using many elements of the original mix in the into of the track all leads into a hard hitting dubby synth that we’ve never heard yet from Afrojack. It’s an interesting track but not exactly what we’d like to hear from Afrojack. Although this isn’t his best remix, it shows his versatility. Enjoy!

Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me (Original Mix) + Aylen Remix!

A little late to this one, Afrojack and Shermanology released “Can’t Stop Me” last week and it instantly climbed the Beatport charts. This track has a soft gradual vocal build up into a hard hitting Dutch Electro banger that you will be sure to hear everywhere, literally.
Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me (Original Mix):
This remix is by NJ native Aylen who has been banging out remixes day after day. This kid has pure talent and I see huge things in the future for this young artist. This remix features his normal Electro House feel and makes the track hit harder and really great overall. Enjoy!

Michael Jackson – Bad (Afrojack Remix)
There has been a lot of talk and discussion over the Afrojack remix of Michael Jackson’s bad and as to whether or not Afrojack should have remixed it. In my opinion I think it is a great remix on one of the all time greatest songs. Afrojack’s mild approach to this song proves to be the reason for the success of the remix. Maintaining as much as possible of the original song, Afrojack’s signature sound is still made apparent throughout the track. I can not simply sit still whilst listening to this track, it gets me doing the Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan Head dance from Rush Hour.
This remix will be available as part of the special 25th anniversary of MJ’s legendary seventh artist album “Bad” featuring re-mastered songs, unheard demos and series of remixes. Bad 25 will be available September 18 through digital stores, also including remixes from A-Trak and Diplo. Also as this post comes to you, today is the third year of Michael Jackson’s passing.
Feel free to drop a comment down below on your thoughts of the remix.
